Woven marine rope over an oiled solid-teak frame, strung entirely by hand for a seat that gives just enough and dries within minutes of a shower. Both materials are chosen to live outdoors through sun, rain, and salt air without shelter or fuss.
The rope is UV-stable and rot-resistant, tensioned by hand across the frame so the seat has a gentle spring that a solid seat can never offer. The teak needs no cover to survive — this is a chair you leave out on purpose, not one you rush to pack away at the first cloud.
The frame is mortise-and-tenon teak with stainless fixings, light enough to carry with one hand yet rigid enough to feel utterly solid when you sit. Should the rope ever slacken after many years, the whole chair can be restrung rather than replaced.

Care
Hose the rope down and let it dry fully, and either oil the teak frame twice a year or let it silver to an even grey — both are correct and down to taste alone. Avoid dragging the chair while it is loaded, which stresses the woven seat.
Give the rope an occasional scrub to lift any greening in damp, shaded spots, and check the stainless fixings once a year. Let everything dry before oiling, and bring nothing but the chair itself — no cover is needed.
The rope is a wearing part by design, and after many seasons it can be professionally restrung on the original frame rather than replacing the chair. The teak, meanwhile, effectively lasts a lifetime, ageing into something better than new.
