A gentle C-curve cut from solid oak and oiled to a low, hand-rubbed sheen. The cantilevered top slides over a sofa arm, a bed edge, or the arm of a chair, while the weighted foot keeps the whole thing planted under a laptop or a full mug.
It is small, but the joinery is not: the curve is laminated from thin oak layers bent over a form, which is what lets it hold its shape and its strength for decades rather than springing back or cracking. The single continuous line is deceptively hard to make well.
The oak is finished with the same hard-wax oil as our larger pieces, so it resists rings and wipes clean, and the grain runs unbroken around the curve. It is a small object built with the care usually reserved for a much bigger one.

The cantilever means the base slides under a sofa or bed while the top floats above it, so it takes up almost no visible floor. Two of them work beautifully as a pair — one by the reading chair, one by the bed.
Care
Wipe with a dry cloth and re-oil once a year to keep the oak fed and ring-resistant. Use a coaster for hot mugs and avoid leaving standing water at the foot, where oak is most likely to darken or mark.
Keep it out of prolonged direct sun so the colour stays even, and lift rather than drag it across rough floors to protect the foot. The laminated curve is strong but not a step — keep the weight to tabletop things.
Any everyday scuff sands out with a light pass of fine paper and a fresh coat of oil, returning the surface to new. Because it is solid oak throughout, there is no veneer to wear through, so it can be refreshed again and again over its life.

The 55 cm height is set to clear a standard sofa seat and hover a mug at armrest level, and the 6 cm base clearance lets it slide over most sofa and bed frames. At 6 kg it moves with a fingertip, yet the weighted foot keeps it from tipping under a leaning elbow or a heavy laptop.
