One solid slab of American black walnut resting on a monolithic plinth base cut from the same timber. The top is finished with a hard-wax oil that sits down in the grain rather than forming a film on top, which means a scratch can be spot-repaired with a little oil and a cloth instead of refinishing the entire surface.
Walnut darkens and warms with light and age, so the table you unwrap is the lightest it will ever be — in five years it will have deepened into something richer. Every board is unique, and we match the grain by hand across the joins before it is glued and clamped, so the top reads as one continuous piece of wood.
The plinth is hollow-built and internally braced to carry the weight without twisting, and the whole table is engineered to survive decades of dinners, homework, and the occasional dropped pan. It is the kind of table a family measures its years against.
Dimensions
A six-to-eight seat dining table with a heavy, grounded presence that anchors a whole room. The plinth is set inboard from the ends so the two end chairs pull straight out without a leg to catch, and there is clear knee room all the way around.
At 220 cm long it seats three a side comfortably with an end chair at each head, and it needs about 320 cm of room overall to let chairs move freely. The top overhangs the plinth just enough to sit at the corners, which a four-legged table never allows.
Care
Dust with a dry cloth and re-oil twice a year to keep the surface fed, sealed, and water-resistant. Use mats or trivets under hot or wet items and wipe spills promptly, as walnut will mark if liquid is left to sit on it.
Avoid harsh or ammonia-based cleaners, which strip the oil finish; warm water and a soft cloth is almost always all it needs. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun to stop one area darkening faster than the rest.
Because the finish is oil rather than lacquer, the top can be sanded and re-oiled back to new at any point in its life — there is no plastic coating to crack or peel. A ring or a scratch is a five-minute fix, not a reason to replace the table.

The 74 cm height pairs with dining chairs of 45–47 cm seat height, and the 100 cm width leaves room for platters down the centre while people face each other comfortably. At 82 kg it ships in two parts — top and plinth — and wants four people and a clear path to move into place.
