Details & materials

Stonewashed Belgian linen over a kiln-dried hardwood frame, joined with mortise and tenon — no screws anywhere in the load path. The suspension is hand-tied in an eight-way pattern, the same slow method used a century ago, because nothing invented since has held a seat's shape for as long. The seat itself is a feather-and-down blend wrapped around a high-resilience core, so you plump the cushions back to life each morning rather than replacing them in three years.

The linen is pre-washed before it is ever cut, which is why it arrives already soft and only relaxes further with use. It is a natural fibre, so expect it to wrinkle where you sit, to catch the light differently as it moves through the day, and to look a little more like yours and a little less like a showroom with every passing month.

Every frame is built by a single maker who signs the underside, and the corners are glued, screwed, and corner-blocked by hand. This is a sofa engineered to be reupholstered in fifteen years rather than thrown away — the bones are meant to outlast the cloth, and we keep the covers on record so a future you can order them again.

Dimensions

A deep, low three-seater built for lounging rather than perching. It seats three across comfortably, or two with room to fold your legs up sideways, and the seat runs deep enough that most people reach for the back cushion to sit upright.

At 210 cm wide it needs a clear wall run of roughly 230 cm to breathe, and on its side it clears a standard 76 cm doorway with the feet unscrewed. If your hallway turns a tight corner, send us a photograph before you order and we will tell you honestly whether it will make the journey.

Care

Vacuum monthly with an upholstery head and rotate the seat and back cushions so they wear and fade at the same rate. Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth working from the outside in, and never rub, which only drives a stain deeper into the weave.

For a deeper refresh, a professional upholstery clean once a year lifts the whole piece back to life. Keep it out of long hours of direct sun, which can lighten linen unevenly over a summer, and away from radiators that dry one side faster than the other.

The linen is meant to soften, crease, and gently patina — that lived-in character is the entire point of the material, not a fault to be steamed away. If a cover is ever damaged beyond cleaning, we can remake it from the original pattern rather than writing off the sofa.

Measurements

Width 210 cm · Depth 95 cm · Height 72 cm · Seat height 42 cm · Seat depth 58 cm · Arm height 58 cm · Weight 46 kg.

Seat depth is the measurement that decides how you will live with it: at 58 cm this is a sofa for sprawling, not for sitting bolt upright, so plan on a back cushion if you like to read here. Leg clearance underneath is 14 cm, enough for a standard vacuum head to pass, and the feet unscrew by hand for delivery.

“We sat on it in the showroom and then thought about it for a month. It arrived, two people carried it in, and it was in place in ten minutes. The frame does not creak.”

“The linen is the whole point. It looked lovely on day one, and now it looks like ours — my children have both fallen asleep on it, and I would not change a thing.”

“Deeper than I expected, in the best way. Worth measuring your room properly; the lead time ran to nine weeks, not eight, but it was worth the wait.”

“Four years in and the cushions still plump back up. Best sofa we have owned.”
